🧐 What is Fullmetal Alchemist: Anime and Manga

Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime series that can be seen on Netflix, Funimation and Hulu. It takes place in a fictional world where people use alchemy to create things like weapons and armor. The main characters in the series are Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies after they were taken from them by an alchemy accident. The Elrics must travel across the country while trying to find fragments of philosopher’s stones that can give them their bodies back.

Edward Elric

Edward Elric is the older brother of Alphonse Elric and the son of Trisha Elric and Van Hohenheim. He is also an alchemist, specializing in transmutation, the art of using alchemy to turn one thing into another.

He is a State Alchemist, meaning that he has been recognized as a member of society’s elite by the government for his contributions to science. Because these are valuable services, he has certain advantages: he has access to state-of-the-art equipment and a large research budget; he wears military clothing and can walk around unmolested by police officers or other authorities.

Edward uses this power responsibly when investigating mysteries such as those surrounding his brother’s disappearance during a failed experiment at his home (which led to an epic search).

Alphonse Elric

Alphonse Elric is the younger brother of Edward Elric. He is a State Alchemist and a member of the State Alchemists. Alphonse is also a skilled swordsman who, through training with his brother, has developed similar skills to his older brother in the wielding of alchemical swords.

Winry Rockbell

Winry Rockbell is a childhood friend of Edward and Alphonse Elric, who is also a mechanic. She is the daughter of Pinako Rockbell and grew up with Edward in Resembool. She is very skilled with automailes, which she creates and maintains for her friends, as well as for people in need.

Roy Mustang

Let’s take a look at Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist. His Flame Alchemy is a form of alchemy that can create, control and manipulate fire. He is the youngest State Alchemist in history and was also the first Flame Alchemist in history. He is also the only human known to have defeated a homunculus.

Alex Louis Armstrong

Alex Louis Armstrong is a muscular man with a thick mustache and beard, he is the strongest man in the world. He is an alchemist of great skill and strength, who served as a colonel in the Amestrian State Army until he was assigned to Colonel Roy Mustang’s unit. He has also been involved in other military operations, including fighting the Xingese forces during their invasion of Amestris and his posting as one of King Bradley’s bodyguards after his rise to power. After befriending Edward Elric, Alex participated in several missions with him and assisted him on journeys that would later take them both to Lior, where they allied with Envy Adams’ group for their own purposes, before returning to Central City, where they were reunited again after parting ways following their departure from Lior nearly two years earlier, late last year.

Riza Hawkeye

In the early days of the war, Hawkeye’s tactical prowess and skill as a sniper earned her the rank of Colonel. She was also an alchemist with a keen eye for strategy, allowing her to coordinate attacks on enemy forces while keeping herself safe from harm.

In battle, Hawkeye is able to use her alchemy skills in combat by forming large fire arrows in each hand. He can then fire these arrows at enemies from great distances using his signature weapon, the “Hawkeye G5” (or “Grip five”), a rifle with a top-mounted scope that allows him to shoot accurately.

Maes Hughes

Maes Hughes was a friend of the Elrics and Winry Rockbell, as well as a high-ranking officer in the Amestrian State Army. He was killed by Envy after being transformed into a chimera by Dante.

In addition to being a loving husband and father, Maes Hughes had many other talents. Among other things, he was an excellent cook and often helped out in his wife’s restaurant when he wasn’t busy with work or playing with his dog Rafaello (who became one of Ed’s best friends). He also liked to paint; several of his works hang on the walls of his home, as well as in Trisha’s cafe. He also liked to read; one such series of books he read was called “A History of the World”.

Master Izumi Curtis

Izumi is a master alchemist, who taught Edward Elric the basics of alchemy and was the first person to teach him. She is also the mother of Alphonse Elric. She was the wife of Maes Hughes, who died in battle during a military conflict between Amestris and Crete.

She later appears at his home in Rush Valley, where she meets Colonel Roy Mustang, who has come to ask for her help in finding a way to restore Edward’s body after he lost part of it during an experiment gone wrong in Central City’s Lab 5. She refuses because she believes that attempting such an experiment would be too dangerous, though she later relents when she realizes the pain Edward is suffering without his brother’s soul inside his metal body.

In Chapter 26, “The Truth Behind the Truths,” Izumi reveals more details about herself: how she met Van Hohenheim, Edward’s father; why she gave up her title of State Alchemist; and what happened between her and Maes Hughes’ family (which caused them to move into their old house). Her reasons for teaching Edward about alchemy are also revealed – because she reminded him of herself before she became State Alchemist: young and curious about everything around them!

Wrath (King Bradley)

Anger in Fullmetal Alchemist is the backbone of the story. It is the emotional core that keeps Ed and Al going after a tragedy that would leave most people broken and unable to function. We first see King Bradley’s wife, Grace, is killed by her husband in an explosion that wipes out her and Winry’s parents. This sets up one of the main plot points of the series: King Bradley is actually an alias for Solf J. Kimblee, the main villain responsible for the death of Hughes (Edward Elric’s best friend) and Winry’s parents while they were still children.

Scar

Scar is a member of the military and one of its top officers. He is also a homunculus, and serves as the main antagonist in this anime. Scar was born as Hohenheim’s son, Dante (a human who lived over 200 years ago) with his wife Beatrice as his daughter. When they discovered that Dante was actually an alchemist, they raised him as a normal child until they could find someone to teach him how to be an alchemist properly without making mistakes during his training process. They eventually found Envy and taught him everything he knew about alchemy so that he could become a successful alchemist like them; however, Envy had no interest in becoming one because, instead, he wanted everyone to worship him! So when Envy started creating things for himself without permission from anyone but himself, this caused problems between the three members (Dante/Hohenheim/Beato).

Olivier Mira Armstrong

Olivier Mira Armstrong is the daughter of the late General Armstrong (who was a very famous and brave leader), and is also the Colonel of the Amestrian Militia. She is very skilled in fighting, just like her father. She married Roy Mustang when he was still a lieutenant colonel. They had two sons together: Alphonse Elric and Edward Elric. Roy died before his son Edward was a year old, so Olivier raised both boys alone until they were old enough to join their father in military service as officers under his command.

Father Cornello

Father Cornello is a religious leader who eventually reveals himself to be a homunculus. He is a member of the Thule Society, an ancient German cult linked to Nazi ideology. After losing his faith in God, Cornello decided to create his own religion and founded the Church of Leto. His goal was to convince people that the Philosopher’s Stone can give eternal life, which he believes is achieved by drinking water from the Well of Lior.

Cornello has become one of Edward and Alphonse Elric’s greatest enemies over time (and even more so after they discover that he was secretly plotting against them). Thanks to their experience dealing with him at the beginning of their journey, they know they can’t allow him to continue to deceive the others, especially since he has become part of something much bigger than he originally intended.
